For the last two weeks Little Gems have been working on a secret mission! We have been making our very own Christmas decorations to decorate the nursery. we have provided the children with Christmas paint, sparkly materials, glitter and sequins and they have produced some amazing pieces of imaginative art. We have been very busy making giant baubles, Christmas trees, sparkling stars and the most adorable snowmen which will be displayed on our main wall in the nursery. We shall be transforming the room so the children get a wonderful surprise when they come to Little Gems on Monday morning!
Our Little Gems have also been practising singing songs for the Christmas performance. We are learning Christmas songs which we hope you will enjoy.
At snack time the children enjoyed making sandwiches. They spread their own cheese spread on wholemeal bread and some of them were able to successfully fold the bread in half, while others were able to cut their bread into pieces. A super activity to help develop the children's physical development and a tasty snack which the children were proud to prepare themselves.
The children continue to enjoy our new giant chalk boards. Most of the adults in the nursery have a daily menu or shopping list written for them! :-) Also there have been some very good self portraits on the chalk boards this week! We have a new bench in our outdoor area which we call our 'chatting bench' The children often stop for a sit down and a chat to each other or the grown ups in the setting. A lovely place to make friends and have a little chat!
We have all enjoyed going on adventures in our school grounds! We have used our senses to explore our outdoor environment and the children found some real treasure! (The bright yellow leaves on the tree at the bottom of the field) Putting on our wellies and stamping in puddles has been greatly enjoyed too!
Little Gems are looking forward to a very exciting week next week! :)
We have had a very busy few weeks at Little Gems! :)
Our Last week before the half term break was filled with Halloween inspired spooky activities! The children enjoyed using pastels to colour in some pumpkins and we decorated witches hats with black paint and glitter!
In addition to this the children had a go at scooping out a pumpkin and some of us really enjoyed exploring the slippery texture of the flesh. However, some of us preferred to dig out the pumpkin with a spoon!
Spiders and scary creatures were added to our sensory tray and the children enjoyed eating bug filled wibbly wobbly jelly for their snack!
Mrs Blackhurst made us some super spooky biscuits which the children decorated beautifully and black gloop was on the menu too! Great fun was had by all and we hope you all enjoy the Halloween festivities at home! :)
We started off by reading the story of 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. This inspired many activities including decorating our Cosy Corner with a 'Very Hungry Caterpillar' display. The children were very creative and helped make and decorate caterpillars and we learned a new song, 'Little Arabella Miller Found a Woolly Caterpillar'. The children also made their own fruit smoothies, again taking inspiration from the story. The children really enjoyed chopping apples, kiwi and pears then watching Miss McShane blend the fruit in the noisy blender. We enjoyed our smoothies at snack time!
The Very Hungry Caterpillar has definitely become our favourite story at Little Gems! :)
Little Gems have been learning about Autumn. We have enjoyed Autumn walks where we have noticed changes in the weather and our environment. We have collected leaves, printed with them and had lots of Autumnal sensory experiences, including exploring some very messy Autumn gloop! The children have used conkers, twigs, acorns and fur cones for sorting and counting and made hedgehogs with our Autumnal play dough.
The children have made their own soup this week. We peeled and chopped a variety of vegetables, cooked them in our kitchen and enjoyed our soup at snack time! We were very pleased that everyone tried it! Mrs Keech had some for her tea! :)
We are so pleased with how well the children have settled into nursery during the first half of the term. It has also been wonderful to watch our Little Gems welcome new friends to our nursery! :)
