November 2021

English

In English we have been looking at traditional tales. The children have enjoyed reading a range of alternative versions of traditional tales, before writing their own story based around a traditional tale.

The children have also been focusing on writing a newspaper report based on the story “Fantastic Mr Fox” by Roald Dahl. Which we have been reading as our class guided reading text.

 

Mathematics

This half term we are focusing on multiplication and division. The children are working on written methods for multiplication and division after having the opportunity to use practical resources to practice creating arrays as well as grouping and sharing. The children are working on developing their times table fluency.  

Science

In Science, the children have been learning about light. Already this half term, they have explored what light and dark are and investigated reflective materials using torches. The children have used mirrors to write and find hidden messages. The children enjoyed learning about UV light and know how to keep themselves safe in the sun.

 

Topic

Year 3 are continuously enjoying their topic of ‘The Romans’. The children have been able to explore many Roman artefacts and love learning fun facts. The children have enjoyed learning about why the Roman’s invaded Britain as well as learning about Roman inventions. The children have really enjoyed our music lessons. We created our own class ballad by writing our own lyrics to an animation. Then we learned the lyrics of by heart and performed it.

 

 

 

October 2021

English

In English we have been looking at the book ‘Into the forest.’ By Anthony Browne. The children have been able to make predictions of what might happen based on their knowledge of traditional tales.

They have had opportunity to act out the story to enable them to write a recount. The children have also been focusing on instruction writing. The children made Japanese fruit skewers and created a set of instructions on how to make them.

 

Mathematics

The children started the team learning about place value. The children understand the value of each digit in a 4-digit number. The children spent time comparing and ordering numbers before moving on to addition and subtraction. The children are working on written methods for addition and subtraction after having the opportunity to use practical resources to practice exchanging ten and hundreds.

Science

In Science, the children have been learning about the human body and animals. Already this term, they have explored the impact of healthy and unhealthy lifestyle choices, within diet. The children have learned about skeletons. They are able to sort different animal skeletons into the categories of vertebrate/invertebrate and endoskeleton/exoskeleton/hydrostatic skeleton. The children have learned the names and functions of the bones in the human body.

 

Topic

Year 3 are continuously enjoying their topic of ‘The Romans’. The children have been able to explore and name parts of a Roman town and city as well as describing the differences and similarities between Roman times and modern day. The children have particularly enjoyed learning about Boudicca’s rebellion and have learned the lyrics to the Boudicca song.

 

September 2021

 

Welcome to Year 3.

Our topic this term is "The Romans." The children seem really excited to get stuck into learning. 

Reminders

Please note that PE is on a Wednesday. As the weather is turning colder please ensure your child has tracksuit bottoms and a jumper in their PE kit, as well as shorts for indoor PE. Please ensure that your child has either trainers or plimsols in their PE kit.

 

Please make sure that the children are completing their homework every week, as well as reading with your child every day so they receive their ‘5 reads and a book talk’ award. To gain the book talk award, please write in their reading records that you have discussed the book and what happened in the story. Homework should be handed in on Monday and new homework will be given out on Wednesdays. Maths homework is 45 minutes of Maths whizz and 15 minutes of Numbots or TTRockStars a week.

 

Please also ensure that your child has a named coat, wellies and water bottle in school every day. Thank you for your continued support.
