Blackman (Year 6)
Malorie Blackman is a famous British author who writes exciting and powerful books for children and teenagers. She was born in London in 1962 and loved reading when she was young, even though she didn’t see many books with characters who looked like her. That inspired her to become a writer and change that for others. One of her most well-known books is Noughts and Crosses, a story that explores racism and friendship in a different world. Malorie’s books make people think about fairness, equality, and how we treat others. In 2013, she became the Children’s Laureate, a special award given to someone who helps make reading fun for young people. Malorie Blackman is influential because she opened doors for more Black characters and authors in children’s books. She shows that stories can change the world and that everyone deserves to see themselves in books.
