Autumn Term

Week ending 28th November

We have been so proud of the Year 2 children over the last two weeks. During assessment week, they worked incredibly hard and did really well. This week they have been writing their own instructions for how to watch a creature of their choice based on 'How to wash a woolly mammoth'. In RE, we learnt about the story of Rama and Sita and why light is important to Hindus at Diwali. They enjoyed our science experiment of testing the absorbency of materials. We are looking forward to the final few weeks of term and practising our Christmas performance.

Week ending 14th November

Year 2 have had a very busy first two weeks back at school. They have loved exploring our new text in English 'How to wash a woolly mammoth'. They have explored instructions and how to write instructions. In Maths, they have been developing their methods for subtraction and are becoming increasingly confident in using these. We have started our new Science topic about materials. They have labelled objects and the materials they are made from in the classroom. In Art, they have been expressing themselves with line and mark making in response to music.

Week ending 24th October

Rashford class have had a fantastic first half term in Year 2. They have learnt so many new skills including new methods for adding numbers (even exchanging across a ten!) In English, we finished the term looking at the hilarious book 'Don't Trust Fish!' They created their own mixed up animals and wrote fact files about them using adjectives to descibe and conjunctions to extend and add detail to their sentences. We also finished the term by designing and making our own stable pencil pots. They loved getting creative!

Week ending 3rd October

The children have thoroughly enjoyed our English text 'My Most Exciting Eid.' They enjoyed learning a bit more about Eid using this text and then used it as inspiration for some amazing descriptive writing using adventurous adjectives. In Science, they have been developing their understanding of seasons by looking at how trees change across them and the differences in daylight hours. In our computing lessons, they have loved using Sketchpad to create amazing images inclluding scenes from the 'Three Little Pigs' and self portraits.

Week ending 12th September

What a great first full week we have had in Year 2! The children have got stuck into their learning across all areas of the curriculum. In English, we read 'The Unbelievable Truth About My Summer' and wrote sentences about our own summer holiday. In Maths, they have been developing their understanding of the place value of numbers to 100. They thoroughly enjoyed the first lesson of music where they had to replicate animal noises!
