Spring Term

Week ending 13th February

The children have had a great final week to the half term as we welcomed History off the Page for a day all about the history of toys. The children used what they had been learning about in History over the term and showcased their knowledge as they investigated toys from the last 100 years. They identified how they were made and how they worked. The day was finished off with the children making their own toys from the past.

Week ending 30th January

As always, we have been incredibly busy with our learning in Coleman class! The children have been enjoying linking their History topic of toys with the books they have been reading in English: 'Toys in Space' and 'Toys Galore'. They have used adjectives brilliantly to make missing posters for lost toys and have learnt about plurals in their writing. In Maths, the children have been brilliant with their addition, recalling number facts and using resources to add up to 20. In Science, the children have explored their senses by conducting investigations around their sense of taste, touch and smell. The children have sewn and embellished puppets in DT – they are amazing, and the children were really resilient and calm with their sewing. Finally, the children have continued to explore algorithms by programming Beebots in Computing.

Week ending 16th January

The children have returned from the holidays with a fantastic attitude and have been superstars with their learning. In English, the children have practised their sentence writing, ensuring their sentences are clear, have finger spaces, capital letters and full stops. They have also learnt when to use a question mark, checking for an interrogative word. We have shared the series of books from Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs, as well as 'Lost in the Toy Museum' to tie in with our new History topic about toys from the past. The children have loved investigating some of these toys so far and making comparisons between these and the toys they like to play with now. In maths, children have consolidated their shape learning and have begun to learn about place value up to 20, focusing on the tens and ones in the teens numbers. The children have been enjoying the colder weather during outside learning, making ice wands, going footprint hunting, making bird feeders and making rain gauges.
