Knowledge Organisers to support with learning at home
Week Ending 20th December
We have been incredibly impressed with the children's writing this week. They have used facts from their research to write their own information report about an animal of choice. Using subheadings and paragraphs, they were able to organise their writing really well. In Maths, they have continued their learning with multiplication and division. In DT, the children have been creating their cushions. We have been really impressed with how they have been continuing with their sewing to make their cushions. They have shown so much resilience and determination developing this skill and we are so proud of them. We wish you all a very peaceful Christmas break and look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday 7th January 2025 because Monday the 6th is a teacher training day.
Week Ending 13th December
In our English lessons, we have been using the story 'James and the giant peach' as inspiration for our writing. The children have researched a bug from the text in preparation for writing their own report next week. We have been really impressed with their use of paragraphing in their writing and we are looking forward to reading their finished reports. In Maths, they have continued their learning with multiplication and division. We have been really impressed with how they are applying their number knowledge. The children have really enjoyed our music topic on Ballads. They have shown good understanding that a ballad tells a story through song. They loved learning the lyrics to and making up actions to David Bowie’s Space oddity. We have been so impressed with their efforts in the Christmas performance, “no one wraps like an elf.” They were all superstars!
Week Ending 6th December
The children have had a fabulous week of learning. In English, they have been learning how to use conjunctions, write topic sentences and organise paragraphs. We are using the story James and the giant peach by Roald Dahl as inspiration for our writing.
In Maths, the children have continued their learning of multiplication and division. They have been focusing on problem solving and reasoning questions. Years 3, 4 and 5 have thoroughly enjoyed rehearsing the Christmas play and we can not wait to perform it to parents next week.
Week Ending 29th November
In Maths, the children have started their unit on multiplication and division. We have recapped the strategies that we learnt last term as well as focusing on times table recall. In our English lessons, the children have enjoyed planning and writing their own version to our class text James and the Giant Peach. The children took great pleasure in reading aloud and sharing their story with other children in Year 3/4. The children are loving our Science unit on magnets and forces. They got very excited carrying out an investigation to see how different materials cause friction.
Week Ending 22nd November
We have been incredibly impressed with the children's efforts in their assessments this week. They have all worked extremely hard and should be so proud of themselves. The children are thoroughly enjoying our Christmas play practices. We are so proud of how well they are learning the lyrics to all of the songs. Finally, in our Geography lessons, the children really enjoyed learning about what makes St Neots a good settlement. They used OS maps of the local area to identify different features of St Neots.
Week Ending 15th November
The children have had a fabulous week of learning. In our English lessons, the children have enjoyed writing the story of James and the Giant Peach using a variety of sentence starters. In Maths, the children have completed their learning of addition and subtraction and have moved on to learning about area of shapes. The children are loving our R.E unit on scriptures. They have enjoyed writing about their favourite book and why it is important to them. Finally, the children also really enjoyed the trip to the cinema to watch If.
Week Ending 8th November
The children have had a fantastic week at school. They have got stuck into their learning and we are really proud of everything that they have shown us. In our English lessons, we have been recounting the story of James and the Giant Peach, by Roald Dahl. They used their amazing roleplaying skills to rein act the story. They have thoroughly enjoyed listening to and acting out the story in groups. In Maths, Year 3 have been continuing their learning of addition and subtraction. They have been learning to use the column method with exchange. Year 4 have started their new Maths topic on shape. The children have also really enjoyed the beginning of our Geography topic about settlements. It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm towards all of the subjects that we have been teaching, including DT, RE, Music and PSHE. We are looking forward to seeing where their learning takes us next week!
Week Ending 25th October
In Maths, the children have been continuing their learning of addition and subtraction. The children have been able to make exchanges using the column method. Also, the children have enjoyed learning French and are starting to remember key words and phrases.
As well as our learning in the classroom, we had a brilliantly Roman day with History off the Page on Tuesday. The children looked fantastic in their costumes and became completely immersed in the experience. In the morning, the children were engrossed in a variety of activities which included perfume making, creating clay beads, writing on papyrus paper, painting plaster, melting wax prints, making mosaic tiles and sewing leather work. During the afternoon, we had a wonderful banquet and performed and watched a range of entertainment which included acting, fables and dances.
The children have worked really hard this half term. Have an amazing half term and we look forward to seeing you on Tuesday 5th November as Monday 4th November is a teacher training day.
Week Ending 18th October
The children have had a fabulous week of learning. In our English lessons, the children have enjoyed planning and writing their own newspaper article which included the characters from our class text ‘On the way home.’ The children finished of this unit of work by editing their newspaper report and making improvements. Finally, we role played being television news reporter and presented our reports to the class. In Maths, the children have continued their learning of addition and subtraction and have started to use the column method to work out their calculations. To finish of our science unit on ‘Animals including Humans’ We explored diets with a focus on nutrition and how we get energy from food.
Week ending 11th October
In English, the children have identified the features of a newspaper report and then wrote their own about our class text ‘On the way home.’ In Maths, they have started their new unit of work on addition and subtraction. We have been really impressed with how they are applying their number knowledge. The children are really enjoying our History topic on the Romans. They loved making their Roman solider shields and used them to role play Roman army formations and battle strategies.
Week Ending 4th October
In Maths, the children have finished their learning about place value by developing their understanding of how to round numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. We have been so proud of how they approached this topic and they are looking forward to using the skills they have learnt in addition and subtraction over the coming weeks. In English, we have spent the week exploring newspapers. The children spent some time finding the features of a newspaper report before having a go at writing their own. The children have really enjoyed our Art lessons. This week, they have created detailed observational botanical drawings using shading techniques to add tone and form.
Week Ending 27th September
The children have had a fabulous week of learning. In our English lessons, the children have enjoyed planning and writing their own story which included the characters from our class text “On the way home.” The children finished of this unit of work by editing their story and making improvements. In Maths, they have continued their learning on place value by comparing and ordering numbers. The children are really enjoying our Computing lessons, where they are learning how computers work. In addition to this, they made a paper laptop and added the CPU, GPU, ROM and RAM. They then learned how all of these components work together effectively.
Week Ending 20th September
In our English lessons, we have been using the story 'On the way home' as inspiration for our writing. The children have written a recount of the story focusing on using adjectives in a list as well as using adjectives to start sentences. They have thoroughly enjoyed listening to and acting out the story. In Maths, we have continued our learning about the place value of numbers. They have really impressed us with their confidence and ability in this area of Maths. In Science, they loved learning about bones, skeletons and their roles. They got really excited about identifying and measuring the bones in their bodies.
Week Ending 13th September
The children have had a fantastic first two weeks back at school. They have got stuck into their learning and we are already so proud of everything that they have shown us. In our English lessons, we have been using the story 'On the way home' as inspiration for our writing. The children have written character and setting descriptions focusing on using adjectives in a list as well as using adjectives to start sentences. In Maths, the children are learning about place value. They are using equipment and drawings to represent a variety of numbers. Year 3/4 have also really enjoyed the beginning of our History topic about the Romans. It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm towards all of the subjects that we have been teaching, including Science, Art, Computing and PSHE. We are looking forward to seeing where their learning takes us next week!
