๐ŸŒˆ Another colourful week with The Colour Monster! ๐ŸŒˆ

This week we have continued our wonderful journey through The Colour Monster, exploring not only the different colours but also the feelings and emotions that they represent. ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’™โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ–ค

At carpet time, we have been talking about different emotions and discussing ways we can cope when we experience big feelings. We have looked at pictures of different children and talked about why they might be feeling the way they are feeling, encouraging the children to think about facial expressions, body language and different experiences that can make us feel certain emotions. ๐Ÿ˜Š

๐ŸŽจ Creative Table, We have continued making our colour jar collages, exploring the different colours and emotions. The children have also used dabbers to create their very own confused Colour Monsters, experimenting with colours and creating some fantastic artwork!

โœ๏ธ Mark Making Table, Our focus has been on developing pencil control and strengthening our arms and hands. The children have been drawing around monsters, drawing underneath the table to help build those important arm muscles, and creating their own self-portraits. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ

๐Ÿ”ข Maths Table, We have been developing our sorting and colour recognition skills using different types of pasta. The children have enjoyed sorting the pasta into different colours, encouraging them to notice similarities and differences while developing their mathematical thinking. ๐ŸŒˆ

๐Ÿงต At our finger gym, the children have been practising their threading skills using different shapes and colours. This has been a great way to develop their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, concentration and control while having lots of fun exploring the different combinations. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿงต

๐Ÿงบ Tuff Tray, We had a giant Colour Monster filled with colourful pom-poms! The children used different coloured jars to sort the emotions, carefully using tweezers to pick up the pom-poms. This was a great activity for developing their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and understanding of colours and emotions. ๐ŸŒˆ

๐Ÿšฒ Outside Learning, the children have been busy drawing Colour Monsters on the floor for their friends to colour in. We have also been encouraging everyone to follow a one-way system when riding the bikes, helping the children understand directions, road safety and how we can keep ourselves and our friends safe. The children have particularly enjoyed pretending to be traffic lights! ๐Ÿšฆ They have been practising stopping, going and making sure everyone is following the rules and staying safe.It has been another fantastic week full of colour, creativity, emotional learning, physical development and lots of fun! ๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿ’–We are so proud of how the children are beginning to talk about their feelings and think about ways they can help themselves and others when experiencing different emotions. ๐Ÿฅฐ

๐ŸŒˆ This week in Nursery... we've been exploring The Colour Monster! ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’™โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ–ค

This week, the children have been enjoying the wonderful story The Colour Monster by Anna Llenas. The book follows a friendly monster whose emotions are all mixed up. With the help of a friend, he sorts his feelings into different coloured jars, helping children to recognise and talk about emotions such as happiness, sadness, anger, calmness and fear in a simple, engaging way.

We have been busy taking part in lots of exciting activities inspired by the story! ๐ŸŽจ The children have created beautiful collages of the different emotion jars using a variety of materials and textures, developing their creativity and fine motor skills.

๐Ÿ–Œ๏ธ They have also been ink dabbing their favourite Colour Monster using lots of bright colours and explored colour mixing through their artwork.๐Ÿ˜Š At our Come and Explore table, the children have been matching emotion pictures to the correct feelings, helping them to recognise different facial expressions and build their emotional vocabulary.

๐Ÿงธ During carpet time, we have been talking about the different emotions from the story and sharing what makes us feel happy, sad, angry, calm or worried. It has been lovely to hear the children's ideas and support them in understanding that all feelings are important and okay to talk about.

This week, the children have been developing their fine motor skills as they carefully followed patterns to help different feelings find their way home. They have also enjoyed colouring a variety of emotion faces and colourful monster pictures, talking about the different feelings they can recognise. ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ‘น

During our carpet sessions, the children have been putting their observation skills to the test! They looked carefully at the teacher’s facial expressions and tried to identify which feeling they thought the teacher might be experiencing. We talked about how our faces, voices and bodies can give us clues about how someone may be feeling. ๐Ÿ’ญ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿ˜ก

We also had lots of fun taking part in a Skittles colour experiment! ๐ŸŒˆ The children carefully placed Skittles around a plate in a circle before adding warm water and watching in amazement as the colours slowly spread and created a beautiful rainbow. They loved watching the colours mix and change and sharing their ideas about what was happening. ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿ’ง๐ŸŒˆ

We are so proud of how confidently the children have been expressing their feelings, listening to one another and taking part in all of the activities. Well done, Nursery! ๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿ’–

W/C 15.09.2026

What a fantastic week we have had exploring the wonderful world of toys, both old and new! The children have enjoyed learning about toys from the past, comparing them with toys we play with today, and using their creativity and imagination throughout our activities.

๐Ÿ“š This week, our Big Gems have been focusing on the story Kipper’s Toybox. The story follows Kipper as he discovers and explores a box filled with toys, encouraging children to think about their favourite toys, sharing, playing and using their imaginations. We have used the story as a starting point for lots of conversations and exciting learning experiences.

๐ŸถOur Little Gems have been enjoying Spot Goes to Nursery. In this lovely story, Spot goes to nursery and experiences all the fun and excitement that comes with being at nursery, helping the children to talk about their own experiences, routines and the things they enjoy doing at nursery.

โœ๏ธ Mark Making Table, At our mark making table, the children have been colouring pictures of old and new toys. They have also been developing their fine motor skills by practising how to follow different patterns, helping to strengthen pencil control and coordination.

๐Ÿงธ Carpet Time, During our carpet sessions, we have been looking at toys from a long time ago and toys that we use today. We talked about how toys have changed over the years and wondered whether some of the older toys are still played with today.

We also asked the children, “If you could bring one toy to school, what toy would you bring?” The children then drew pictures of their chosen toys to share and talk about with their friends. ๐Ÿ’ญ๐ŸŽจ

๐Ÿ–๏ธ Writing Table, At the writing table, the children had the opportunity to draw any toy they like or would like to have. This encouraged them to use their imagination while developing their drawing, mark-making and communication skills.

๐Ÿ‘ Playdough Table, Our playdough area has been a hive of creativity! The children used their fine motor skills to manipulate the playdough and create different toys. They could also colour in pictures of toys and have a go at designing their very own toys. ๐ŸŽจ

๐Ÿง  Come and Explore Table, We have also been putting our memories to the test! The children had different cards placed face down and had to use their memory skills to remember where each picture was and match up the pairs. This was a fantastic way to develop concentration, turn-taking and memory.

๐ŸŒŸ What a busy and exciting week! ๐ŸŒŸ

W/C 07.09.2026

This week, we have been exploring the wonderful book ‘You Choose’ by Nick Sharratt and Pippa Goodhart. ๐Ÿ“šโœจ The book encourages children to use their imagination and make their own choices about the people, places, food, activities and adventures they would choose. It has been a fantastic way to talk about our likes, dislikes, interests, opinions and experiences, while celebrating that everyone’s choices can be different. ๐Ÿ’ญโค๏ธ

At our mark making table, the children have been able to choose colouring activities based around their own interests. ๐ŸŽจ This has given them opportunities to practise their fine motor skills, develop pencil control and experiment with colours.

We also provided pictures of houses for the children to draw their families inside. ๐Ÿ ๐Ÿ‘จ‍๐Ÿ‘ฉ‍๐Ÿ‘ง‍๐Ÿ‘ฆ The children could think about the people who are special to them and even draw pictures inspired by some of the adventures they went on during the summer holidays. โ˜€๏ธ๐ŸŒˆ Our Come and Explore table we had faces for the children to explore, where they could add different facial features to create their own faces. ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ‘ƒ๐Ÿ‘„ This encouraged discussion about emotions, similarities and differences, while supporting their understanding of themselves and others.

In our writing area, we provided a variety of different writing templates for the children to explore, including postcards, lists and letters. ๐Ÿ’Œ๐Ÿ“ฎ The children could choose what they wanted to write and use their imaginations to create their own messages, lists or holiday postcards. This provided lots of opportunities for the children to develop their early writing skills in meaningful and purposeful ways.

During carpet time, we explored ‘All About Me’ action cards. The children listened carefully to instructions and had lots of fun moving their bodies in different ways. ๐Ÿคธ‍โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ‘This supported the children in following directions, developing their listening skills, body awareness and coordination, as well as learning how they can manipulate and move different parts of their bodies. We also encouraged the children to think about their likes and dislikes through a sorting activity. The children were able to share their own opinions and compare their choices with those of their friends, noticing that we don’t always like or choose the same things — and that’s okay! ๐Ÿ’•

At the painting easel, we had silhouettes of people for the children to paint. The children could choose whether they wanted to paint a picture of themselves or someone special to them. ๐Ÿ–Œ๏ธโค๏ธThis encouraged the children to think about themselves, the people who are important in their lives and the different features that make each person unique. Our play dough activity focused on facial features. The children were given placemats showing faces with missing features and were encouraged to use play dough to add the missing parts. ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ‘ƒ๐Ÿ‘‚๐Ÿ‘„They used a variety of tools to roll, squash, cut, shape and manipulate the play dough, providing lots of opportunities to strengthen those important fine motor muscles and develop hand-eye coordination.

At our creative table, the children continued exploring the theme of ‘All About Me’, using a range of materials to express their ideas and create representations of themselves and the people who are special to them. โœจIt has been such a lovely week seeing the children share their ideas, talk about their families and interests, make their own choices and learn that everyone is unique and has their own opinions, likes and dislikes. ๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿ’•We have loved seeing the children’s personalities shine through their creations, conversations and play this week! ๐ŸŒŸ

What a lovely week it has been! ๐Ÿ’›

We have absolutely loved seeing all of the children back and hearing all about their adventures, stories and exciting things they got up to over the holidays. It has been so lovely listening to them share their experiences with their friends and teachers. ๐Ÿฅฐ

The children have settled back into their routines so nicely and it has been wonderful to see them feeling comfortable, happy and ready to learn and play. They have also been very welcoming of some of the changes around the setting, which has been fantastic to see! ๐ŸŒˆ

Next week is going to be a little busier as we welcome some new children for their settling-in sessions. However, after seeing how kind, caring and welcoming the children have been over the last few days, we are sure they will welcome our new friends with open arms. ๐Ÿค—โค๏ธ

We are so proud of how brilliantly everyone has settled back in, and we are looking forward to another exciting week together! ๐ŸŒŸ
