Summer Term
Week Ending: 27.06.2025
This week, the Einstein class has embarked on an exciting adventure into the world of pirates! The children have been busy crafting their very own treasure maps, skilfully staining them to create an aged appearance, and hiding treasure for their peers to discover. In Maths, they are exploring directional and positional language, complementing their pirate skills with this essential knowledge.
Our learning activities this week have revolved around the captivating text "The Ship That Jack Built", sparking imagination and creativity. The excitement doesn't stop there! The children have also created their own wanted posters for notorious pirates known to roam the classroom, even offering tempting rewards of pieces of eight for their capture.
Buried deep within the tuff tray, a treasure trove awaits, providing the children with opportunities to apply their phonics knowledge in playful yet educational ways to safeguard their treasures. What an exhilarating week of learning and discovery!
Week Ending: 20.06.2025
We kick-started the week by exploring all sorts of boats, inspired by the text "Brilliant Boats." The children have truly immersed themselves in this project, taking their time to design, make, and test their boats. Some vessels needed repairs and revisions to ensure they were fully waterproof and capable of floating, but the children worked tirelessly to meet the brief, showcasing their determination and creativity.
In phonics this week, the children revisited a number of tricky trigraphs, sorting words and images based on their respective sounds: air, ear, and ure. It has been wonderful to witness their growth and understanding in this crucial area of learning.
In Maths, the children engaged in creating repeating patterns using a variety of objects, while also working on determining whether a number is odd or even. Their enthusiasm for learning shines brightly, and we are incredibly proud of their achievements this week!
Week Ending:13.06.2025
We have come back from half-term raring to go and eager to explore all things seaside-related! Our core text has been The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch, which has truly captivated the children's imaginations. In the home corner, the little ones have been industriously creating a variety of picnics to keep those pesky seagulls at bay. Over at the making table, they have honed their cutting skills and designed their own seagulls, which we have proudly hung around the classroom.
During our Drawing Club sessions, the children engaged in lively discussions, sketched their ideas, and discovered innovative ways for the lighthouse keeper to transport his lunch safely. The construction area has been a hub of creativity, with the children expertly building towering lighthouses from wooden blocks, some even boasting working lights!
This week, as a whole class, we also enjoyed an exciting painting session using watercolours. The children created stunning sunsets over the sea for their lighthouse silhouettes, which look absolutely fantastic on display in our classroom. Furthermore, we dedicated time to writing questions about lighthouses, seeking answers to queries such as: Who changes the light bulbs? How did they build the lighthouse in the sea? and What’s the tallest one in the world? The enthusiasm for learning has been truly infectious!
Summer Term
The summer term in Einstein Class has been an exhilarating journey centred on all forms of transport! We explored various travel methods around the globe, imagining how aliens might traverse the universe. The children's creativity soared as they crafted astonishing spacecraft using an array of materials.
As the term progressed, our focus shifted to all things marine. A highlight was when we constructed our own boats, investigating their floating and sinking properties. Although many initially sank, the children persevered, redesigning their vessels until they successfully floated!
We also delved into two fantastic books which enriched our learning. 'The Hundred Decker Bus' inspired us to apply our design and technology skills to make our own buses, with the children eagerly using hacksaws. Another favourite, 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch,' motivated us to create beautiful lighthouse paintings. This term has truly been a feast of imagination and learning!
